‘Madden NFL 22’: Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes become two-time cover stars
For EA Sports’ 2021 release of its popular Madden NFL franchise, developers looked to honor two of the sport’s greatest of all time: the old G.O.A.T. and the baby G.O.A.T.
In the days leading up to June 17, 2021, EA Sports teased its cover athletes by posting images featuring literal goats, allowing fans to speculate on potential cover athletes solely based on photos of two animals.

Many anticipated that the idea of the G.O.A.T. made Tom Brady a lock to be featured on the cover, with others connecting the dots and adding Patrick Mahomes to the speculation, as well.
Those theories were proven correct when EA Sports released the official cover for Madden NFL 22, featuring the two quarterbacks that battled it out in Super Bowl LV in February.
“This is Madden like you’ve never seen it…” EA Sports wrote on Twitter. “It’s a whole new vibe with ALL-NEW Dynamic Gameday.”
Just four years ago, Brady was featured on the cover of Madden NFL 18 as a member of the New England Patriots. In that 2017 season, Mahomes’ first in the NFL, Brady earned NFL MVP honors and lost in Super Bowl LII against the Philadelphia Eagles.

A few years later, Mahomes was tabbed for the cover of Madden NFL 20 amid his rapid rise to the top of the NFL. That year, Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs would go on to beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.
Now, Brady will get his first crack at the cover as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while Mahomes will hope for similar success as he had in his first year on the cover.
Madden NFL 22 is set to release on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on August 20, 2021.
